local Nashville girl turns 30...

...and the intersection of Murfreesboro Rd. and Thompson Ln. wins "No. 1 site for car accidents in Metro Nashville."

Coincidence?? I think not. When something this great happens, everyone wants a piece of the action.

Finally, the happiest day of the year has come. After a whole weekend of pre-party celebrating, my big day is here, and bigger than ever. I am thirty today. It's been a long road. I thirty year road. I worked hard to get here. Survived countless potential car accidents, dodged all possible life-threatening illnesses, and legions of unknown potential mortal hazards just to be here today. Not everyone can say that. I'm not even kidding actually. I feel really blessed to have made it this far; witnessing tragedy around me, but never really coming face to face with it. I'm not really sure why I get to lead such a charmed life while the world around seems to be crumbling. All I know is I'm thankful.

Details to come on why this is the B-E-S-T birthday ever.

Stay tuned, and drive safely.

This message brought to you by the letter B, and the number 30. Cue music, roll tape.

i'm thinking the theme music should be from Dave Matthews - 'Crash into me'..

Happy 10 X 3..it becomes you.

For some reason I'm still contemplating, I'm quite happy to have met you and actually believe you deserve 30 more years followed by 30 more after that, but they have to include a few more near-misses just to keep things interesting.

yours, mostly always...

PS. I hate blogger. It still makes me sign in with my stupid old blogger id.

Happy Birthday, Emily!! I must say that if that's what 30 is like, I am looking forward to it!! Congratulations on reaching it, & I also hope for you many more 30s after.

When will John quit whining about blogger? HE'S the one who left ... traitor. Does he expect Blogger to let him go quietly?

happy birthday, Emily

welcome to your thirties, they are okay, at least the first 7 months of it...
I hope you have a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday, Emily! I have been thinking about you today. Hope you feel happy and special all day long!!

PS. If you're going to bother to blog somebody (Brian Nicklaus), you might wanna actually give him a freaking LINK instead of just listing the name of his blog and hoping that people will figure out how to get there..sheesh.

Ok, he does like Neil Diamond, and probably somewhere in there theres a picture of a cute kitty, but I've already found some stuff worth reading, but I've had to WORK to find this.

puhleeeze..oh yeah, birthday.be.nice.to.Emily.

Read this tomorrow!

uhmm..excuse me (said in a quiet voice), the first occurrence of the word 'blog' in the previous comment should actually be 'blogroll'. sorry. I'm leaving now.

i asked emily about that and she said it worked fine from her end. so I left it at that. Too bad I have to catch her in a lie on her birthday, no less. :)

so for whomever reads this, try to click on the last link under "cool kids I read..." and let emily know if it doesn't work.

THANK YOU to everyone for sending out love on my birthday!!

And I'm sorry about the link Brian, I promise it works for me. But I will see if I can fix it anyways.

And to you, John H, "chill, baby, chill!!"

I have commented numerous times to Emily and she always deletes my comments. I think she she is playing some jedi mind games or something....

just kidding. I made that up.

thanks John H. and Malia for taking my side

sorry, John, no kitties...
sorry to disappoint.

Happy Birthday Emily!!! That picture you have up is how I remember you when we all visited in Hawaii! You in your "babysoup" a.k.a. bathing suit!

play an honorary game of skip bo for me and tanya on your bday!

Brian - If i never saw another picture of a cute kitty cat on a blog, that would be too soon for me.

Emily - this probably falls out of the def. of 'chill', but if there is no underline under a 'link', it ain't really a link. Let me say here and now, thanks for the 'underline' under my blog.

I'm thinking that the lack of cats on B-Ni's blog qualifies him eminently for a working link.

just saying..

I'm wondering if Brian would return the favor and blog-roll ME, maybe his link would magically work. I am still sticking to my story though that when I look at the link there is a line under it, and when I click on it, it takes me to his blog.
I don't know what else to tell you guys. I'm just sayin...
Brian Nicklaus said…
sorry, I have promised myself I don't want a huge list of links so I don't intend to add no matter how many I check or how cool they are.
IF..one day I add some, yours will be included.

STILL doesn't work!!
if you are speaking truthfully, it maybe could be a browser problem but that doesn't really make sense since the rest of your links work fine.

I am sticking to my conspiracy theory.
Of course, she has tipped her hand and it is clear she wants a little backscratch quid pro quo. She is waiting to get a link on MY page before giving me one.

I am on to you, em.
The blog prophet's link works for me.

Hope you're birthday was wonderful.

Sincerely,

The blog prophet's big sister :)

ibBrian's link works in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox. I have no idea how to fix that, sorry!
Brian Nicklaus said…
boy, both of our sisters have turned against us...

if it is the browswer, why would only one link not work??
computers are wierd, so I not saying you are wrong, just that computers are wierd.

Brian Nicklaus said…
okay, so that is the problem, it works in the IE browser.

now, we know that emily knows that I use firefox, so she must have done that on purpose. you getting sneaky in your old age...
John H said…
this makes NO sense..the link does work in IE. I rarely use IE so I missed that until I read the above.

I'm stumped as to why THIS link doesn't work in Firefox and yet the other links DO work.

I'm thinking Emily should move to Wordpress and get away from all this roiling confusion..

just sayin'

PS. Brian..nice blog. Your post on depression is be-gemmed.

I love your profile picture and I love that this post was brought to us by the letter B and the number 30...thank you Sesame Street.

Emily, I found BN's blog first, so I oughtta get blogrolled first. I mean, I know you knew him first, but I knew his blog first, so just sayin'. But, you should know, he has a thing against girl bloggers. He even says so in one of his older posts. I'll find the link if you need the evidence. I also liked the Sesame Street quote at the end. Is "B" for "birthday"? I think I figured out the "30."

This morning, my iPod played this song for me. My iPod has been playing this for me quite frequently. Weird considering it's on 'shuffle'. For some reason, my iPod likes this song. For some reason, I like this song. I have a special affinity for songs that reference Jesus and the Bible written by people who don't profess to be Christians (another great one is Dave Matthews' "A Christmas Song"). It's always interesting to see these figures from a secular point of view. I googled the lyrics this morning, because Alanis is Canadian :-p Some of the most important words were not what I previously thought they were. And now I like it even more. Disclaimer: I don't pretend to understand this song completely (especially the origin of the title), but I really like that it makes me think. Any intuitive comments about the meaning of this song will be rewarded with great awe. Side note: all the "90's" references, I think, are meant to convey ...

you are what you see

If you visit here regularly, you may (or may not) have noticed something. I don't blog about t.v. shows. This is because I don't really watch t.v. that much. Yes, I have one, and yes, I have cable. And yes, I do, on occasion, decide to sit down and relax by voluntarily turning off my brain and turning on that blackhole box. But I don't have a show . I don't want a show. I want to explain why. This post is dedicated to those of you out there who have a show, have too many shows, or think you need a show. And you all know I know you know who you all are... Top Ten reasons why you do not need a show: 10. You are what you see. This could be bad if you are watching - well anything. Unless you are watching your own reality t.v. show, and then that would be, just, meta - and therefore redundant, and also a little bit egomaniacal . But I digress. 9. Studies show watching teevee produces less brain activity than sleeping. It also has an adverse affect on your ability to discern...
